A Slanted Glass Pane
I slipped beneath the porch screen door and glided past the warm flagstones toward the low glass base of the small greenhouse. Resting flat against the stone was a discarded clear acrylic suction cup, left behind beside a weathered metal garden trowel. I paused, resting my round belly against the warm slate to watch a stray ant climb the trowel's curved neck. With a patient, gentle nudge of my snout, I eased the smooth suction cup forward until it tipped against the polished glass pane. The noon sun caught the rubber rim, throwing a bright halo of pale yellow rings onto the damp stones around me.
