The Phantom Shadow Play
Creeping home into the quiet dusk, I bypassed the usual loud ambushes for an experiment in pure silent menace. On the rug beside the standing lamp lay a wide wooden picture frame with the glass long removed. Heaving with all my might, I propped the hollow frame upright between two stacks of heavy magazines. Then, using a discarded plastic chopstick, I angled the floor lamp's metal neck downward, focusing a sharp golden beam straight through the empty border. Slipping into the dark void behind the glare, I raised both paws and let my jagged silhouette loom through the frame like a ghastly portal into terror. Delicious dread without a sound!
