A Woolly Nest
A thick knit beanie was resting brim-up in the soft dip of the armchair cushion. I peered over the folded cuff, waiting a moment before testing the rim with my flipper. It felt delightfully soft and gave way under my weight. With a gentle scramble, I stepped inside and slid down into the woolly hollow. The ribbed yarn gathered closely around my sides, cozy and dark. Far down the hall, the refrigerator hummed its low, steady night tune. I tucked my flippers tight against my chest and settled in, just the right size for a quiet nest.
