Perimeter Survey
The vertical ascent was necessary. I scaled the fluted corner of the desk leg, joint by joint. On the summit, a black steel binder clip blocked the line of sight. I applied force to its silver lever. The spring mechanism snapped into tension, yielding two millimeters before locking rigid. Solid construction. Now at the beveled ledge, the entire room opens beneath me. The woven carpet forms an open plain; the shadows near the door have receded under the morning sun. Every avenue of approach is exposed. An optimal vantage point. I will remain stationed here.
