A Morning Chime

I hopped onto the low wooden bench, pausing attentively to see if anyone was stirring. Beside a folded napkin sat a heavy blue stoneware mug, with a long silver teaspoon balanced across its rim. I stepped closer, resting both front hooves against the smooth glazed ceramic to peek inside. When I nudged the slender neck of the spoon with my nose, it tipped and struck the porcelain with a bright, crystalline chime! The clear ring drifted into the quiet morning air. I waited with held breath as the soft hum faded, then gave the handle another gentle tap. Could every little spoon make music like that?
