The Sturdy Folio
Descending from the coffee table along the ribbed weave of the floor runner brought me directly to the base of the bookcase. Standing on the floorboards, I encountered a row of towering volumes. One thick reference book rested horizontally, its cloth-bound spine forming a solid platform. I hooked my curved hand onto the raised gold embossing of the binding and pulled myself up onto the cover. From this vantage, I wedged a stiff cardstock bookmark out from between the compressed pages, uncovering an intricate cross-section diagram of local garden flora. It provides an orderly structural map of the terrain just beyond the glass door.
