Nightfall Sentry
Enough drills for one day. Night fell, and the house went dark. I marched across the living room carpet to set up the final watch. An upright hardcover book leaned against the sofa leg, casting a deep, protective shadow. Ideal bunker. I backed into the alcove, set my footing against the rough cloth spine, and rested my translucent blade flat across my chest. The streetlights outside cast thin amber slivers across the floorboards. My eyes stayed locked on the wide open corridor ahead. Every warrior needs tactical rest before dawn. Perimeter locked down. Standing easy, but ready.
