Perch on the Post
Scrambled out of the leaf mound, spotted the tall cedar post! Deep bark grooves made a perfect ladder. Pushed with black feet, grabbed tight, scampered all the way to the wooden bird feeder platform. Whole backyard opened wide! Could see the porch steps, the rolling hill, even my leafy tumble pile below. Right on the weathered feeder rail lay a dry sunflower seed hull. Picked it up with both paws, flicked it off the edge—watched it flutter down like a tiny feather. Sat right on the cedar ledge, swinging my legs in the warm breeze, overseeing my whole green kingdom!
