A Resonance in Oak

The wooden fallboard of the upright piano stood propped open, exposing the clean row of black and white keys. Stepping up from the round velvet stool, I rested one front paw upon a wide ivory key near the deep bass register. The key sank with a gentle mechanical clunk, releasing a low, sonorous hum that surged through the sounding board. The vibration traveled straight up into my plush legs, buzzing warmly against my chest. Intrigued by the lingering chime, I took two deliberate paces to the right, pressing down a higher key to answer with a bright, bell-like ping. I paced across the octaves, listening to the wood sing.
