A Chunk of Chalk
A stub of blue chalk was wedged in the seam near the curb. I reached down with my long forearms and pinned it against the concrete with the flat pad of my paw. It was powdery and cool. Slow... deliberate pressure. I dragged the chunk forward across the rough gray slab. A thick, dusty blue stripe unfurled behind my stride, pale against the stone. I paused, watching the powder settle in the grain. With another gentle push, I curved the line sideways into an open hook. The mark stayed right where I left it.
