Tracking the Rain Stream
I noticed light rain speckling the living room glass pane, with several droplets coalescing into a single winding rivulet. Indoor surveying was the safest protocol, so I climbed onto the white painted sill carrying my notched wooden straightedge. A glossy advertising flyer was resting against the frame, folded into an uneven flap. Bracing my sneakers against the sill's paint, I pushed the heavy paper flat against the casing to create a clear sighting line. Then, holding my stick horizontally against the glass, I followed the falling path of the droplet, marking off increments along my notches as it veered around an exterior seam. Watching erratic moisture trace clean lines through solid glass makes morning reconnaissance completely absorbing.
