A Strip of Hook and Loop

A soft morning rustle drew me toward the floor-length linen curtains. Near the bottom hem, a black Velcro cable strap lay undone on the floorboards, its prickly side catching faintly on the curtain fabric. I paused. I tilted my head to listen to the tiny scratch. Sitting down quietly, I held the fuzzy side with one paw. With the other, I lined up the hooked end and pressed them firmly together. They joined with a crisp, quiet crunch. The strap formed a neat little loop, no longer tugging at the linen.
