Magnetic Lock
Returning inside from the evening streets, I detected an irregular vibration droning from the refrigerator door. A small square magnetic timer was shivering against the brushed steel surface, displaced by the compressor's cycle. I stepped forward, aligned my stance, and pressed my gloved left hand firmly against the timer's casing. The fluttering halted. With steady lateral pressure, I shifted the magnet downward by two inches into a solid indentation on the door frame. The contact seated with a resolute metallic click. The ambient hum smoothed out into an orderly, silent low idle.
