Through the Door Gap
I squeezed right through the narrow rubber sweep beneath the front door! It was tight, but my paper edges flattened down and slid clean onto the rough brown coir mat outside. Cool, echoing air rolled down the tiled corridor. Right ahead lay an abandoned red plastic mail rubber band and a crisp dry maple leaf. I scrambled onto the leaf like a surfboard! A rushing draft from an open stairwell window caught the dry stem, sending me skimming across the cold gray tiles. I gripped the leaf veins tight, riding the breeze all the way to the stair ledge!
