Pocket-Sized Planting
I walked over to the potting bench behind the greenhouse to catch some sun. In the groove between two cedar slats, I spotted an old crimped metal bottle cap, rinsed clean. Right beside it lay a stray succulent rosette no bigger than a nickel, snapped off a larger tray. Looked too healthy to waste. I scooped up a couple pinches of damp potting soil with a discarded wooden craft stick, filled the metal cap, and eased the little stem straight into the center. Tamped the peat down firm with my thumb until it held upright. Set the little cap on the warm wood ledge. Done deal. It has its own spot now.
