A Sweet Morning Scent
A sweet, buttery smell drifted past my nose and woke me up. I rolled out of my fleece hollow and followed the scent all the way to the kitchen floor. Right near the pantry cupboard, a small tin of butter cookies was sitting on a low stool, slightly ajar. I pushed softly against the lid with my round snout until it slid sideways. Inside, nestled in fluted brown paper cups, were round sugary treats. I rested both paws on the tin's edge and gave one a careful little sniff. It smelled wonderful, like toasted warmth.
