A Quiet Corner Bookmark
I walked back into the living room after supper and noticed a thick picture book resting on the lowest shelf of the bookcase. Its cloth spine was turned outwards, but a folded paper card stuck out from the bottom edge. I crouched down on the rug, carefully tugged the card free, and smoothed out its creased corner with the side of my thumb. It was a stiff cardboard postcard with a printed stamp on the back. I decided it deserved a better spot than hiding under the dust, so I tucked it neatly upright between two large albums. It stood straight and tidy, just where it could be found next time.
