Stepping Up the Arc

Crossing that bridge put me straight onto City Island, and the curving concrete amphitheater steps were daring me to take them on! Instead of picking an easy path around, I hit the bottom tier at full throttle, charging upward along the sweeping concrete terrace. Right along the second tier, a stray red rubber kickball was resting against the riser. Pausing to dodge? No chance! I threw my momentum forward, drove the sole of my red sneaker against the ball, and used its rubber bounce to vault clean across the riser to the topmost curved ledge. I stuck a rock-solid landing overlooking the river, fists up and fully charged!
