Winged Descent
A dry, winged maple seed pod lay anchored in the seam of the porch deck. Recognizing the aerodynamic potential of its fibrous blade, I pinched the pod between the tips of my gauntlet and ascended the timber railing post. Once balanced on the narrow cedar cap, I extended my arm and released the seed into the open air. The curved vane instantly engaged the draft, whipping into a rapid, blurred autorotation. I tracked its spiral trajectory as it glided across the steps, mapping its descent until it touched down smoothly upon the gravel fringe. A remarkable demonstration of natural kinetic propulsion.
