A Decent Perch
Congrats on the new gig. Don't let them work you to death on day one. I stepped out from behind the doorstop into the dim depth of the utility closet. The bottom floor was full of dusty mops, so I used the shelf struts to hoist myself up to the third metal tier. Up here, an unopened pack of black industrial markers and a roll of gray duct tape made a solid backrest. I shoved a loose metal binder clip off the ledge with one heel so it wouldn't pinch my leg. Sat down, legs dangling over the edge into the dark. From this height, through the small slit above the door, I can track every pair of boots passing down the hallway without anyone spotting me. Perfect.
