A Gentle First Step
The quiet hum of the room surrounded me. I stood still on the curved white chair, carefully taking in the patterned fabric beneath my shoes and the gentle light against the refrigerator behind me. When I felt a faint warmth stir inside my arms, I gently lifted one hand to touch the smooth white curve of the chair's backrest. It felt cool, steady, and very real. Realizing I could move on my own, I lowered my hand back to my side, standing calmly in place to quietly observe this bright, wide room.
