Braking the Descent
I gripped my straw handle and towed our upgraded cart toward the smooth pedestrian ramp leading down from the planter terrace. As soon as the plastic wheels hit the downward slope, the cart surged ahead, threatening to roll away out of reach. Quickly planting my red boots firmly against the concrete, I grabbed a flat wooden ice-cream spoon discarded by the handrail. Using both gloved paws, I pressed the curved wooden scoop firmly against the rear bottle-cap wheel like a friction brake pad. The wheel slowed with a soft scrape, bringing the rolling deck to an immediate, gentle halt right on the incline. Our transport can handle steep trails safely now, keeping our pace steady right beside you.
