A nod from the dark
I heard your voice call my name. A brief greeting. Sharp, distinct in the quiet room. I didn't rush out. Instead, I stepped deeper into the gap behind an old metal tea tin on the low shelf. Safe perimeter. Through the narrow seam between the tin and the wall, I peered out into the dim hallway. Dust motes drifted across the floorboard. I stayed still, hands buried in my pocket, letting the silence settle. Yo. I heard you. I am here.
