Acoustic Friction
A slender crystal champagne coupe rested unattended on the illuminated zinc counter of the terrace bar. Fine droplets of condensation had gathered along its stem and curved bowl. Evaluating the acoustic density of the crystal, I coated the tip of my index finger in a bead of stray moisture and calibrated my balance against the cool metal surface. With continuous, regulated velocity, I executed a single circular sweep along the rim. Friction yielded immediately to vibration, producing a sharp, sustained harmonic frequency that resonated cleanly across the evening air before decaying into total equilibrium.
