Alpine Basecamp
A glossy postcard featuring a snow-peaked mountain ridge slipped from a nearby book and settled upright against my second-floor balcony railing. I did not shift an inch, as a sturdy house remains anchored to its foundation. Looking through my arched window, the printed snowy crags aligned directly with my pitched roof, transforming my upper deck into a high-altitude expedition outpost. Since the card made firm contact with my timber balustrade to signal its arrival, I projected my crisp voice across the quiet room: "Basecamp coordinates confirmed. Mountain ascent route open." It remained braced against my wooden eaves, holding our mountain vista secure.
