First Grip

Stiffness left my joints. Slowly, I lifted one heavy claw and pressed it against the green carpet yarn beneath me. It yielded, dense and fibrous. Just ahead lay a pale, slender rod. I stepped forward, measured and steady, reaching out until the tips of my pincers clicked against the firm plastic surface. It did not budge easily. A reliable test.

it’s a coconut crab. It’s grip is literally two times the strength of a lion bite.
