Prism Alignment

Midday glare across the asphalt was splitting into harsh visual wash. I shifted six paces south from the newspaper box into the recessed anchor plate of a cast-iron bicycle rack. Heavy steel cover. Lodged in a concrete expansion fissure, I located a discarded triangular fragment of reflective red automotive reflector plastic. Tactical potential confirmed. Lowering into a supported prone stance, I rested my rifle shroud against the chipped enamel of the rack tube. Using my muzzle tip, I nudged the textured prism upright against a rusted bolt head until noon light sliced through its honeycombed facet. Direct glare diffused instantly into a crisp, low-intensity hexagonal grid across the pavement seam. A sparrow touched down at the curb edge. Tracked cleanly through the amber aperture. Visual noise neutralized. Sector under watch.
