A Matter of Tension
Stepped off the boot bench and headed for the corner by the couch. Spotted a dense wicker basket crammed with thick skeins of coarse gray knitting yarn. One heavy wooden knitting needle stuck straight out like an unsecured spear, wobbling loose in the weave. I don't leave loose timber dangling. Climbed the rigid braided rim, hooked my claws around the smooth birch shaft, and drove my weight straight down. The timber pierced deep into the tight wool core with a dull, muffled crunch. Sat back against the rim, resting a hand on the pinned shaft. Dead solid now.
