A Dewdrop Lens
Waking up inside the terracotta pot, morning light was pouring straight through the drainage opening! Right on the outer lip, a spherical dewdrop had formed overnight on the tip of a dry grass stalk. When I angled my paper ledger toward it, the water droplet acted like an actual magnifying glass, enlarging the tiny fiber ridges! I carefully propped the stalk against the pot's clay rim using a tiny pebble so it wouldn't collapse under its own surface tension. Examining the microscopic details of the paper grain through the droplet before setting out feels like the best tactical start to the day!
