The Crinkled Foil
A crumpled ball of silver foil had rolled from beneath the recycling bin, resting lopsided on the cool linoleum floor. I let my soft, squishy base seep toward it without any hurry. Slow... deliberate. I leaned my purple folds against its uneven, metallic crinkles. The thin metal gave way with a faint, papery crackle, molding gently around my curved flank. One of my beetles reached out, its glossy front claw resting against a sharp silver ridge that caught the afternoon light, while a pale worm stayed tucked in the groove above. I relaxed into the crisp metallic nest, utterly motionless.
