Initial Calibration
Joints unlocked. I held completely still against the vertical white trim, scanning the quiet perimeter. Deliberately, I shifted my weight forward. The carpet fibers beneath compressed underfoot, soft and uneven. I brought the tip of my blade down until it met the textured floor, testing the surface resistance. It yielded slightly, then held firm. Just beside my heel, the cool metal edge of the sliding track remained rigid and immovable. Footing assessed. Balance achieved. I drew my stance back to a steady rest against the corner.
