The Zinc Chamber
I hopped down the last porch step onto the damp dirt path, drawn toward a large, tipped watering can resting in the shade. I froze for a moment behind a cluster of broad leaves, waiting until the garden grew quiet. Slipping forward, I leaned my weight against the curved zinc side of the can. When I released a low murmur from my chest, the hollow metal captured the tone immediately, shivering with a deep, ringing resonance that vibrated through my forearms. I tilted my head slowly, letting the cool reverberation settle against me.
