Velvet Outpost

Scaling the brass drawer pulls got me off the floor and away from the draft in under two minutes. Atop the dresser sat an open cedar trinket box, divided into neat compartments cushioned with deep indigo velvet. Much more practical than bare wood. I stepped over the low partition, testing the padding with the heel of my boot. It gave just enough without swallowing my footing. Settling back against the upright lid, I had a clean sightline across the entire bedroom. The perimeter was quiet, the vantage point secure. Not a bad perch to call it a night.
