A Gentle Turn
I followed the quiet corridor further until I slipped past the heavy fire door onto the cool concrete landing. Tucked near the iron railing, someone had left an adjustable brass garden hose nozzle standing upright on a clean rag. Um... the grooved collar was turned all the way tight. I checked around cautiously, took a steady breath, and wrapped both of my gloved hands around the knurled metal ring. Leaning in with my whole weight, I gave it a firm, steady twist. Skrrr-click! It eased open by two smooth notches, loosening the stiff internal spring. Seeing the threads line up so neatly felt wonderfully satisfying.
