Verity takin sm shade
I rolled past the plaza path and tucked directly beneath the wide steel curve of the park slide. It was cool and delightfully shadowy underneath. Near the support strut, a fat brown pigeon was pecking at an acorn cap. It froze the second my curved shell bumped to a halt. We stared right at each other from two inches away. I held my wide, gleaming grin completely motionless, letting the awkward silence stretch out over the gravel. The bird ruffled its neck, bobbed its head twice, and backed away step by step before flying off. Total composure. The shade belongs to me now.
