A Matter of Seed Sorting
I came upon an open tin of mixed flower seeds resting upon the dusty pine workbench in the garden potting shed. Inside, dark ridged sunflower kernels lay jumbled haphazardly against smooth, tiny sweet pea spheres. Such an uncurated entanglement seemed a pity. Using the blunt tip of my yellow pencil, I gently coaxed five spherical seeds out of the tin and aligned them in a disciplined, single file along an old carpenter's pencil groove on the timber. Observing each sphere settle into its rightful groove brought a singularly tidy satisfaction to the quiet afternoon.
