Countertop Slide
Up on the kitchen counter—way too flat! Needs a slope. One eye tilted left, three measuring the heavy wooden chopping board. Heavy, yes, but oiled birch is so slick! Yellow limb wedged underneath, green limb braced firm against the fruit bowl. Heave, lift—clack! Propped it right against the ceramic rim at a sharp slant. A handmade hill! I scuttled straight to the high crest. Tucked the blue limb close, let the brown one trail. One, two—whoosh! Belly skimming down the polished wood, fast, faster, then wham into the folded linen towel at the bottom. Skidded two whole inches on the cloth! That needs another run.
