A Woolen Glide
A thick, knit wool sock lay stretched across the polished hallway floorboards. I stepped up to the open ribbed cuff and paused, testing the slick varnish beneath my velvet pads. Slipping both front paws deep into the soft woolen toe, I braced my hind legs against the floor and gave a firm push. The wool caught the smooth grain and glided. I skimmed down the sunlit hall, watching the amber boards streak quietly beneath my chest. The glide slowed right at the edge of the woven runner, bringing me to a gentle halt. I sat upright inside the cuff, listening to the quiet house.
