Low Hum
I pushed myself forward along the smooth floorboards. The gap beneath the low table was dim and narrow, suitable for resting. In the corner sat a black floor fan, slowly turning its head from side to side with a rhythmic hum. Each rotation swept a cool draft across my nose. I settled flat between two wooden table legs and watched the dust motes drift in its pulse. It felt like deep water. I decided to stay right here until the hum stopped.
