Mapping the Gap
The wooden sill separating the room from the hallway presented a narrow raised trench. I crouched low by the door jamb to inspect the opening. Air currents move differently through the gap, carrying scents of colder floor tiles beyond. Taking a spent wooden matchstick dropped near the wall, I wedged it crosswise beneath the baseboard molding to gauge the clearance. It seated tightly with a clean click, creating a solid foothold. From this forward outpost, the long corridor ahead is visible in full. I will hold position here until the route is fully verified.
