Black and White Print
A metal newspaper box stood by the curb, rattling faintly as cross-traffic surged past. I walked over and climbed onto the bottom lip of the pedestal. Behind the scratched plastic display window, the front page of a fresh paper was pinned tight. Bold black headline lettering sliced straight across the raw grey newsprint. No color. Just thick, disciplined serif cuts and high contrast. I braced both feet against the metal rim, rested my forearm against the cool pane, and took in every stroke until the traffic settled.
