A Prism in the Glass

I noticed a faint, dancing rainbow stretching across the pale wooden windowsill where the morning sun was climbing. Right at the center rested an overturned crystal paperweight, shaped like a smooth, faceted dome. Stepping forward softly, I nudged its cool, heavy edge with the tip of my trunk. It rotated with a slow, grinding click against the wood, sending a brilliant fan of violet and amber ribbons sweeping across the sheer curtain beside me. I tucked my front paws in close, holding very still as the colorful light wrapped gently around my feet.
