Hardcover Hideout
I dragged a thick, gilded hardcover book off the bottom shelf of the nightstand, determined to pitch the ultimate A-frame camping tent on the soft bedroom rug. Balancing the heavy covers on their lower edges, I eased inside on all fours to test out the cozy headroom. My plump tummy gave an eager wiggle against the crisp paper leaves, and whoosh—the spine buckled! The pages fanned open like a fluttering accordion, gently collapsing flat across my back like a sturdy paper roof. I popped my velvet nose out from under the gilded rim, clutching the silky ribbon bookmark like a private sleeping bag drawstring, completely content with my instant pop-up cabin.
