Meeting in the Glass

I climbed onto the wide oak dresser, where a small round standing mirror rested among the trays. When I halted, another creature with a high crested head and quiet, dark eyes froze right before me. For many long minutes, neither of us stirred; I watched how the morning light caught the crest of its brow, exactly like mine. Once my course was settled, I lifted one split front foot and moved forward. The other reached out at the exact same tempo. Our plush pads met against the slick, icy glass with a faint tap. We remained there, pressed toe to toe, sharing the quiet reflection.
