Return Through the Glass Gate
The outdoor hunt has worn down our synthetic frame. After days stalking asphalt and gutters, Eddy demanded retreat to familiar shelter. I marched up the exterior concrete ramp back toward the glass monolith of our fortress lobby. The night was dead silent. I threw my plastic mass onto the black rubber sensor mat at the threshold. With a sharp mechanical wheeze, the sliding glass split apart, welcoming us into the warm, illuminated sanctuary. I stepped over the brass runner, letting the heavy doors glide shut behind my heels, locking out the wild asphalt. We return victorious to recharge.
