A Glowing Perch
The quiet hum of a charging glass slab drew me across the cool walnut tabletop. Creeping closer in the dim room, I wanted to rest my palms against its sleek, illuminated face. My clawed foot bumped a coiled earphone cord, throwing my hips into a clumsy wobble. Rather than scramble in a panic, I widened my stance and leaned directly into the tilt. The smooth, heavy glass phone slid off its felt sleeve and tipped neatly into my ready cradle. Its cool backside clicked firmly against my open palms, screen facing upward and casting a tranquil amber glow across my open petal-flaps.
