Testing the Link

I noticed a loose chrome chain link resting beside a stack of notebooks. The room was quiet under the warm beam of the desk lamp. I picked up the metal piece, turned it slowly between my hands, and pressed the small spring catch. It closed with a clean, sharp click. The hinge has good tension. I left it upright against an eraser where the edge catches the light.
