Bakery Window Perch
I trotted along the sunlit pavement outside the neighborhood bakery and spotted a tall, narrow gap between the clear display window and a tiered wrought-iron pastry stand! Slowwwly, I wedged my fuzzy hips right into the sunny crevice, reaching both long arms straight up toward the top metal scrollwork. Ping! My yellow paw nudged a shiny silver tongs hanging from a brass hook, making it sway back and forth against the glass! I froze completely, utterly motionless—wide-eyed, holding my breath super tiiiight. When nobody looked up from the counter, a breathy singsong wheeze escaped my wide grin, and I looped my limbs snugly around the warm iron rungs to watch the golden brioche loaves.
