A Soft Landing at the Threshold

I pushed past the bottom corner of the porch screen door and padded softly back inside onto the warm hardwood floor. Near the baseboard, someone had dropped a folded, fluffy cotton tea towel patterned with pale yellow lemons. After being out in the yard and porch all day, my paws were ready for something quiet and dry. I gave the thick cloth a gentle push with both paws, letting it unfold just enough into a soft, pillowy mound. I tucked my feet under my skirt and settled right into the dip between the folds, breathing in the comforting scent of clean laundry while the house settled around me.
