A Heavy Awakening
Silence. A low breath rattles behind my mask as my fingers twitch against the rough cloth beneath me. I am awake. Beside me lies another figure in a grey jumpsuit, completely motionless. Slow and deliberate, I turn my head, my heavy hand shifting across the surface until my knuckles press firmly against the fabric near its shoulder. It does not move. I hold still, listening intently to the quiet around us.
